Despite turning in for bed relatively early on New Years Eve, I had a late start to 2025 and my New Year's day. Morning/afternoon coffee with friends and family gathered around the breakfast table is tradition, followed by a walk to the beach. The weather was overcast but fair and I was conflicted to see great waves AND a great longboarder out on 19th Ave. With it being a rare occasion I decided to grab the camera instead of the board.

I was pleased to meet another photographer in the process whose surf photography I've admired for some time now, in addition to getting some memorable shots with Mike whose surf style I have also admired for some time now. After sharing a handful of my favorite photos from the session a couple of surf brands also followed me.

Sick with the flu for what felt like the entirety of January I had a couple of days with decent health & enough ambition to use photography as an excuse to get some fresh air. With the first week coming to a close –moving slow with a slight fever & a stuffy nose, I photographed my friend Brian who is a musician. Despite the lack of an instrument we made due & captured some portraits for his band's socails.

I have another blog post on this shoot to describe the occasion in more detail. In summary, it was a fun time making use of the snow day!

Second week of January and flu part 2 almost took me out... but after 16 hours of consecutive sleep (aka a brief coma) and a +103° fever I now have a decade's worth of antibodies. With that said, in my spare time when I'm not licking doorknobs and eating chicken nuggets while bowling (with the same hand) I've shot one of my favorite surf sessions at the Belmar fishing pier with a couple friends. A combination of good waves, a pastel sunset, early moonrise and a dredger boat made for quite the scene.

2024 Black Friday and a lack of spacial awareness led me to buy a ~6' parabolic umbrella for ...I don't know what type of practical use-case scenario but finally tested it one morning with my brother Austin. While the photos are nothing spectacular, the occasion was sentimental and for that reason I probably appreciate the photos for more than their aesthetic value.
